FAQ
- Can this help me write papers for my college class?
While to some degree, this service can improve your performance in educational settings, it is not meant to replace the duties of a tutor or college writing center.
- I have a neurological diagnosis. Would this help me?
All diagnoses are different, but it is a belief that anyone that participates can benefit even from rote practice with words and phrases. Acquired literacy issues can be tough, but real-world application is the goal, even if that means working on recognizing and reading street signs.
- Can this replace reading intervention that my child’s school district provides?
Ideally, this intervention would be a support to all school-based incentives and should never replace them. The reason is that the school environment is intended to provide a multi-faceted – essentially, whole – experience for your child’s learning. When introduced to techniques that don’t match those your child is learning, success in the classroom may become more difficult, even when the skills are technically progressing. We can work with your child’s structure to ensure the best outcomes.
Literacy training is offered as a service for those who want to improve reading and writing skills. Literacy is a major part of language learning and mastery.
The Program
Literacy programs are based on a minimum of four weeks commitment, and do not have a ceiling limit. The program is built to have individuals build on existing language and cognitive skills to improve overall ability to read and understand material that is crucial to their lives or education. Though an individualized approach is maintained, sessions may be done in groups for those who may enjoy a socialization aspect of literacy learning.
AM I a candidate
You may be a candidate for this intervention if you or your child struggles to get through a book or report. There is no age limit applied to this service; however, children must be speaking when enrolled. For parents seeking ways to introduce early reading skills for infants, please see Parent Tools or schedule a home assessment.
Coverage
This service requires out of pocket payments. There is no sliding scale applied.
