FAQ

  • If I think my child is autistic, would this speed up a diagnosis?

Likely, yes. Given the use of strategies to increase communication and socialization in the home environment, you are likely to have a greater field of evidence that your child is not meeting expectations quickly. We can help with referrals for a psychologist.

  • What if my child makes it to three years old and is still not talking?

Take it at the child’s pace. It is more common than people think that children take their time getting their communication skills off the ground. We will offer means of stimulation and encouragement, involving even alternative communication styles, as needed.

  • Why does the home set-up matter?

The home is where the child spends most, if not all of their time. It is, by definition, their natural setting. When a child is in their natural setting, they are expected to feel more comfortable. This is the setting where new events take place through curiosity and exploration. The set up of the home can expand or limit the potential for communication opportunities or even the appropriate exposure the child needs. Tools such as pictures, books, handheld toys, and foam gyms may be incorporated into the setting to encourage more positive effects.

Early Intervention refers to any of the physical, sensory, adaptive, social, or communication-based interventions that are offered to children ages birth to three years old. It is typically done on a consultant model – which only means that the most delayed skill receives primary attention and that interventionist may consult with the multi-disciplinary team to provide useful techniques to improve on other skills. In most cases, interventionists work in the homes or at least build a strong foundation of knowledge about daily routines in the home to provide the most useful input.

The Program

This program goes along with AEZIP’s standards for early intervention provision. It addresses communication needs primarily; however, if the child presents with other needs, a multidisciplinary approach should be made possible. The program persists for as long as children present the need for the service.
